Check moisture regularly
Feel the growing mix and observe the plant. Hot, windy weather can increase water loss while cool conditions may slow it.
Water thoroughly when needed
When a container needs water, apply it evenly rather than wetting only a small patch at the surface. Good drainage lets excess water leave the container.
Watch for changing needs
A young plant and a mature fruiting plant can use water at very different rates. Recheck your routine as the season changes.
