Pick containers for the plant
Choose a container based on the mature plant and its root system rather than appearance alone. Make sure excess water can escape.
Use a suitable growing mix
Container plants depend on the material inside the pot for root support, air and moisture. A mix intended for container growing is generally easier to manage than dense garden soil placed in a pot.
Expect watering to change
Containers can dry faster than garden beds. Weather, pot size, plant size and material all affect moisture. Check the soil instead of relying on a rigid calendar.
