Choose plants that suit the method
Climbing beans, peas and some vining crops are natural candidates. A vertical structure does not make every vegetable a vertical crop.
Build for mature weight
A support that looks adequate for seedlings may struggle once foliage and fruit develop. Anchor trellises securely and consider wind exposure.
Plan for shade
Tall plants and structures cast shadows. Position them so they do not unintentionally block light from shorter crops that need it.
